Tempeh Bacon Strips - Vegan BLT| Vegan Lunch Ideas

This was one of my first times taking on a tempeh recipe at home. The "bacon" for this sandwich is made from tempeh and was even easier to make than I thought it would be. This sandwich is super flavorful and is the perfect lunch for a crazy week, but the tempeh itself makes for a tasty snack. Let's get cooking!

Ingredients For Tempeh Bacon:

1 Package Tempeh

1/2 Cup Soy Sauce

1/2 Cup Teriyaki Sauce

2 Tbs Apple Cider Vinegar

1 1/2 Tbs Minced Garlic

Drip of Maple Syrup (or sweetener of choice)

  1. Slice your tempeh into long strips, about 1/4 inch thick. Set in a Ziploc bag (or reusable sandwich bag, these are my favorite). Add in your above marinades to the bag and set in the fridge for at least an hour, or overnight.

  2. Once tempeh is marinated, you have two ways to cook. The healthier option is to add them to a baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 15 minutes on each side at 350 degrees F.

  3. For a less healthy option, you can pan fry your strips in some oil for about 3 minutes each side. This will produce a more similar style to bacon, but the baking method is just as tasty.

  4. Add to your favorite sandwich, salad, or even eat them as is for a yummy, protein packed snack!
